Dr Leda Chatzi
The University of Crete was established in 1973 and consists of five faculties and 17 departments. It has around 14,000 students and about 700 teaching and research staff based at three campuses. The main UoC department participating in HELIX is the Department of Social Medicine with a staff of around 50 persons. It is a leading institute in south Europe in research in child health and is developing a new research program in environmental epidemiology. UoC conducts the Mother Child cohort in Crete (Rhea study) and has been involved in many national and international multi-centre projects on birth cohorts. Recent EU funded projects in which UoC participated include NewGeneris, HiWATE, ESCAPE, ENRIECO, CHICOS, ENVIROGENOMARKERS. Investigators are experienced in epidemiological studies of nutrition and child health, including obesity, asthma, and neurodevelopment and have long-standing experience in epidemiological methods, risk assessment, and statistical analysis.
